Archon 29

September 30 - October 2, 2005 at the Gateway Center in Collinsville, Illinois

Summary by SuperGeekGirl

After a rousing game of Quidditch on Friday evening, Achenar, Bon, and I were late getting to the WVA. We met Michael Long and Atsumori there shortly after five, and we all drove to Collinsville. We arrived at the convention, signed in without much trouble, and explored the territory. Achenar and I wandered the dealers room in our costumes, attempting to get some attention. Unfortunately, no one knew who he was (The Man in Black from Stephen King's The Dark Tower), so we were slightly disappointed. We met up with Bon, Atsumori, and Smilin' Bob for dinner at an elusive Denny's. We never found the Denny's, so we ate at Bob Evans. On the way back to the convention, we tried to take a shortcut which involved running across a four-lane highway, rolling down a steep hill, and breaking through a barbed-wire fence. Needless to say, it wasn't much of a shortcut.
That night, we met up with my friend Andy and wandered the con parties. Trekkies were getting drunk, and vampires were bitch-slapping each other, which is always amusing. Michael Long managed to get his staff peace-bonded to him.

On Saturday, we left at about 9:30 in the morning for the con. Achenar and I spent most of the day getting ready for the Grand Masquerade that evening. We went to a panel about safe-guarding our homes against zombies and played a little with boffered weapons on the lawn. Bon attempted to go to the showing of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children while the rest of us went to the masquerade. Achenar and I didn't win anything, but we had a great time (Achenar's first time on stage)... not to mention that we got free food and lots of compliments. We left after the masquerade since it was getting near one in the morning.

Achenar and I dressed as Turks on Sunday, hoping that there would be an encore screening of Advent Children. Luckily, there was. We attended SCA panels until 3:00, when we stood in line for an hour waiting for the film. Since we came early, we got to see the Last Order anime that only comes with the special addition Japanese version of the film. It was amazing, to say the least.
